What is a pterygium?
It is a disease in which the translucent conjunctiva that covers the white surface of the eye spreads to the cornea, which is the black part of the eye. Symptoms vary from mild to severe, and as the disease progresses, you may notice symptoms such as redness and a sensation of a foreign body.
Since it is a benign tumor, there is no problem in leaving it alone if you are not concerned about its appearance, but if it grows close to the pupil, it will cause irregular corneal astigmatism and greatly affect visual function, so surgery is required. It will be.

0: no problem
1 or more: Possibly pterygium. If the pterygium grows close to the pupil, it will cause astigmatism and reduce visual acuity, requiring surgery.
Method of treatments
At our hospital, we perform surgery with the goal of achieving a beautiful finish without leaving redness, and the recurrence rate is almost zero. The basic surgical method is resection using a free graft flap, and it is a day surgery that takes approximately 20 minutes to perform on each eye.
In cases of recurrence, the use of mitomycin or combining it with amniotic membrane transplantation can hopefully restore vision even in refractory pterygium.
