[Dr. Sawaki] Eye health and reading

I've loved reading since I was little. My favorite book these days is "New Beautiful Libraries in Japan." It introduces beautiful libraries all over Japan, and there are many fascinating places that make you want to visit.
In addition, it is now very convenient to order library books from the website. I often visit the library after work, just before closing time, and thanks to this function, I can smoothly borrow the book I want to read and enjoy my reading time. During the preparation period for an academic conference, I borrow books related to the location of the conference to increase my motivation.
Have you ever heard of the term "eye-frailty"? Eye-frailty is defined as "a condition in which visual function declines due to increased vulnerability of the eyes with age and the addition of various external stresses, or a condition in which there is a high risk of this decline."
Reading or doing detailed work for long periods of time can make your eyes tired and dry. Also, if you have trouble seeing small letters or your vision becomes blurry in the evening, these could be signs of eye frailty. If you feel like this may apply to you, we recommend that you visit an ophthalmologist for a consultation. By taking measures early, you can continue to enjoy reading while living a comfortable life.
Your eye health has a big impact on your daily life, so regular checkups and attention are necessary. Take good care of your eyes so you can enjoy reading and your hobbies for a long time.
