Types of allergic conjunctival disease

Allergic conjunctival disease is a disease in which substances that cause an allergic reaction, such as pollen, adhere to the surface of the eye and cause inflammation of the conjunctiva, and there are various types.
There are two types of allergic conjunctivitis: seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, in which symptoms appear during a specific season, and perennial allergic conjunctivitis, in which symptoms appear throughout the year.
Even if you think you have hay fever, please do not judge it yourself and come to our clinic.

Self-check

Hay fever is not limited to cedar and cypress

The pollen season that causes major allergies is as shown in the figure. If you suffer from hay fever every year, you can reduce your symptoms during peak pollen season by starting anti-allergy eye drops about two weeks before the pollen season begins.

Examination/Treatment

  • Blood sampling
The severity of your allergy and whether you are currently suffering from allergic conjunctivitis will be comprehensively determined based on tear and blood test results. If you have severe symptoms or want to alleviate your symptoms without relying on drug therapy, we recommend a blood test to identify the allergen.
  • Eye drops
It is more effective if used before allergy symptoms begin. If the itching does not subside even with anti-allergy eye drops, or if symptoms such as corneal scratches are severe, steroid eye drops may be used for treatment.
  • eye ointment
Unlike ordinary ointments, ophthalmic ointment is sterilely prepared so that it can be put inside the eye (conjunctiva).Because it is applied directly to the affected area, it generally lasts longer than eye drops.
  • Internal medicine
    I am taking antiallergic medications.
  • Nasal drops
This medicine suppresses nasal inflammation such as allergic rhinitis and nasal congestion.Steroid nasal sprays have the characteristic that they are effective once a day for a whole day, and are a very efficient treatment method in the sense that they act directly on the nasal mucosa that causes symptoms.By applying the nasal spray every day, you will see results within a few days.
  • Surgical treatment
For severe cases where symptoms do not improve with drug treatment, surgical treatments such as subconjunctival steroid injection, conjunctival papillectomy, and corneal plaque removal may be performed.
